Letter of Motivation

In the academic year of 2007 I had been accepted by the programme of Accounting and Finance. I made a decision to defer my enrollment to later year because I was just promoted in March 2007. The promotion gave me a chance to a practice team that I may exercise capability in leadership, problem solving and service delivery. During the last six moths I am confirming my plan for career development, and I believe that I am ready to pursue the master degree in 2008. To achieve my future career goal of providing diversified services for clients, I need to expand my professional knowledge with systematic training. The postgraduate programme of Accounting and Finance offered by your institution offers me an opportunity in combination of accounting and finance to sharpen my expertise in providing professional services and advisory to clients.

I have been working in the Tax Department of XXX for four years. My primary focus in XXX is tax saving, a hot topic for wealthy people in Asia , especially in Greater China. In addition to providing tax services for my clients, I am responsible for cooperating with relation managers (RM) from private banking, such as UBS, to deliver turn-key solutions. By providing customized solutions containing financial and taxation opinions to meet clients’ requirements, I successfully build a network, maintain good relationships with clients, and gain reputation in taxation field. As my practical experiences growing, I realize that just using the flaws in current tax law for tax saving is not good enough. In some complicated projects which I cooperated with RMs of private banks, I realized that the adequate use of sophisticated financial products is powerful and safe in legal when facing new challenges. For instance, Taiwan government requires enterprises to expense the employee stock options in 2008. The change in regulation has greatly impact to financial performance of most high-tech companies, especially to their EPS. One of the RMs in Julius Baer discussed with me and together we designed a special option product to lock EPS in a certain range. This product helped solve issues of certain clients and won their trust. In this case the ingenuity and flexibility of financial products impressed me very much. With the combination of different professional areas, I can do more and deliver more to my clients.

Letter of motivation

When I completed the Master degree of Accounting in 2003, I have determined my career goal of becoming a professional accountant. After having nearly four years of work experiences in taxation and other related fields, I have enhanced my original determination of providing multi-dimensional services for clients. In order to further expand my existing professional knowledge within this field, I have devoted myself to applying both theory and practice to perform my professional duties. The postgraduate programme of Law offered by your institution provides a rare opportunity that I would love to cater. I believe it is important to have a through understanding on tax law to build up my expertise as well as to fulfill each individual customer’s needs.

I have completed a Bachelor and Master degree of Accounting in National Taiwan University (NTU) in 2001 and 2003. With great interests in Tax Law, I took several related subjects, such as tax law, contemporary tax issues, and seminar on accounting and taxation topics. These courses had provided me a preliminary concept in regards to tax law. To further expand my practical experience, I have joined the voluntary taxation service to help people in filing tax returns. In three days, almost one hundred people consulted me about their tax issues. However, I found that most people lack the understanding of tax law and fear to face it, no matter how old and how wealthy thXXX are.
